Memories/Memorial Websites

It seems today that whether it's a funeral, a wedding or a birth, everyone must have their own website. If you've had to arrange a funeral recently, you know that you'll receive a sales pitch from the funeral home.

I think these websites have a place. They're a good way to communicate information about an upcoming event. For events such as weddings, elderly relative's birthdays, and funerals, websites not only can distribute freely and inexpensively information about family history; they also can provide a message "chat room" where others can express best wishes or condolences.

If you think you might want a website for an upcoming event (God forbid, such as a funeral), I recommend that you get a "running" start in your shopping and that you make a relatively small payment to a web service that specializes in this rather than have a custom website developed. Here are three companies that provide this service:

www. mem.com (Many funeral homes in Texas apparently have working relationships with this company).
www. legacy.com
www.virtual-memorials.com

Yahoo provides a directory of these types of service:

I enjoy working with families to develop these types of web memorials.
